Discover the Magic of Animated Storytelling

This exciting event is presented by EYEYAH!, an educational platform that uses creativity to inspire social change. By bringing together cutting-edge artists and illustrators, EYEYAH! tackles hot topics such as internet addiction, healthy eating, and environmental issues. The workshop’s facilitator is Saturday Kids, Singapore’s first coding school for kids, known for its commitment to nurturing young minds through technology and creative learning.

The Wonders of Scratch: Where Stories Come Alive

As the children gather at the National Design Centre, they will enter the captivating world of Scratch, the world’s largest free coding community for kids. Guided by experienced mentors from Saturday Kids, they will learn the basics of storytelling through coding, opening up endless possibilities to bring their narratives to life.

Scratch provides an intuitive and playful interface, allowing children to combine code blocks like puzzle pieces to create animations, characters, and interactive elements. No prior coding experience is required, making it accessible to all young aspiring storytellers. The workshop will equip them with the skills to craft vibrant tales, breathing life into their characters and ideas with the click of a mouse.

GIFFEST III: A Journey of Creativity and Imperfection

The Kids Workshop on Animated Storytelling with Scratch is one of the many inspiring events at GIFFEST III, held from May 18 to August 26, 2023. GIFFEST III showcases over 50 emerging and professional artists from Singapore and overseas, exploring the boundaries of the GIF and experimenting with modern technologies.

GIFFEST III is curated by GOFY, an independent creative community that seeks to unite artists from the South East Asian region and make their rich creative cultures more accessible and celebrated. Through various projects and initiatives, GOFY champions creativity and uplifts diverse creative voices, fostering a sense of community among artists.

At the heart of GIFFEST III’s theme, “IMPERFECT,” is a celebration of the beauty of flaws. It encourages artists and participants alike to embrace imperfections as an integral part of the creative process. The Kids Workshop on Animated Storytelling with Scratch, presented by EYEYAH!, aligns perfectly with this theme, empowering young minds to see imperfections as opportunities for growth and creativity.
