Actress Yvonne Lim gives birth to baby boy

Yvonne Lim and Alex Tien are now the proud new parents of Baby Alex Junior. Keep reading for more details...

Mediacorp actress Yvonne Lim and her husband Alex Tien welcomed a healthy baby boy last weekend (27 December 2014) at the Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.

According to the excited new father, Baby Alex (named after his father) was reportedly  delivered via c-section as he was “too large”. He weighed in at 3.6kg – quite a huge feat for someone so petite like Yvonne.

Early arrival

The couple tied the knot in September this year and was due to have the baby on New Year’s Eve. However, when they visited their gynaecologist on Christmas Eve, they were advised to push ahead for an earlier delivery, instead of having it on the original date planned.

“We decided we should have Christmas dinner together and (have the baby) today,” Alex told TODAY over the phone. “We were also afraid a lot of people would try to have New Year babies and the hospital would be really busy.”

The birth experience

According to the new dad, everything in the delivery room “happened really fast”. “We were chatting and then all of a sudden you could hear the baby crying,” Alex recounted.

For him, the experience was “shock and happiness combined with a little emotion”. The new mum cried upon seeing and hearing her newborn, and there was a little tear in his eye. “But I don’t think anybody saw it!” he shared.

Speaking about the baby’s name, Alex said: “The English name is Alex Junior and we call him A.J. It was my decision. Yvonne was a little bit against it at first, but she was okay with it later,” he chuckled. Baby Alex Junior’s Chinese name will subsequently be chosen by Alex’s father.

How are the new parents doing?

At the time of interview, Alex said that the new mum is “doing quite okay” and has returned to the ward to rest. “The gynaecologist is seeing her right now and the paediatrician just left. They say everything looks good right now,” he added.

But what about the new dad?

“I’m back to earth now. I was really nervous earlier! Everything went really well, so that’s nice,” Alex affirmed.

And as further proof that the 38-year-old actress is doing well, Tien shared that Yvonne “keeps saying she’s really hungry”. We think this is a really good sign that things are going well for the new mum!

Heartiest congratulations to Yvonne Lim and Alex Tien on the birth of their baby boy, from all of us at theAsianparent!
