80 accused for having sex with a minor

Right here in Singapore, 48 men have been charged thus far for having sex with underaged girl. These are no ordinary men who paid an underaged prostitute for sex—they are known figures, teachers, civil servants and even high rollers in the finance industry.

80 is a disturbing number, especially when there is a minor involved, and more charges are expected to pile in. Not much has been revealed about the underaged call girl—she is reportedly a Singaporean student with a voluptuous body.

In Singapore, a jail term of up to seven years and a possible fine will be the punishment for having paid underaged sex with a minor. Miss XXX, the call girl in question, actually advertised her services on a website which has been shut down.

Guilty as charged?

These lewd clients ages range from twenties to forties. Here is a partial list of men who have been charged:

Pyi Kyaw Han, 31, faces two charges; Koh Zi Yang, 29 reportedly paid $600 to have sex with the minor at the Strand Hotel on 23 December 2010 and Kelvin Peck Yong Li, 21, allegedly paid $450 for the girl’s “services” at Hotel 81 Bencoolen on 7 October 2010.

Swiss banker Juerg Buergin, 40, from UBS who quit early this year was charged in district court for having underaged sex with the girl late 2010 and early 2011.

Yet another man charged was Lee Lip Hong, 39, the ex-principal of Pei Chun Public School. Reports suggest that he was the only man who came clean for the two charges against him—in 2010 he paid $500 each time he had sex with Miss XXX at Hotel 81 Bencoolen, on 26 September and 14 December.

Released to be married

This next man, Reyner Desvando Suhartono, 28, was actually granted permission by the court to return to Indonesia to get hitched. We wonder if the wife-to-be knows of his extra-curricular activities when he is abroad. According to his lawyer, Suhartono had already made wedding preparations last November before he was called in by police. He allegedly had sex with the underaged prostitute on September 2010 for $450 in his Cambridge Road apartment.

Our children have minds of their own after a certain age—but to us, we will always want to place them in our protective custody. There was even a case of a fourteen-year-old girl who had gone through 4 abortions without her parents finding out. We certainly do not want that for our precious girls.

During their teen years, they may want to shut us out or deem us as helicopter parents but we must improve our communication skills and be involved in all aspects of their lives. It’s always better to be aware rather than regret later.
