7 things to do on National Day 2013

Choose from a series of fun-filled and kid-friendly activities including the best places to watch the (expensive) fireworks, the best neighbourhood party and even a quiet spot for a family picnic.Take advantage of the public holiday, check out our guide below and have a fun day out with the little rugrats!

Marina Bay Sands Boardwalk

If you are looking to be in the heart of all the happenings, this is the place for you and your family. Get your camera ready and capture a magical night filled with fireworks. You may want to bring ear plugs for the little ones as it can get loud!

Esplanade Outdoor Theatre

Head down to the Esplanade and take part in their plethora of free activities. From face painting to National Day songs sing-a-long, your kids won’t run out of things to do. Since it’s in close proximity to the Parade itself, your family won’t miss out on the fireworks!

Singapore Flyer

The Singapore Flyer will also be holding a series of free activities to mark our nation’s birthday. Come on down to this iconic lifestyle destination for choir and hip-hop dance performances, some Tug-of-War fun, art displays and catch the live screening of the parade.

Singapore Art Museum

If you’d rather be indoors, then take advantage of Singapore Art Museum’s open house and celebrate Singapore’s birthday with contemporary art. All activities and exhibitions are free on National Day! Take your kids there and enjoy Art Garden 2013, the only exhibition in Singapore dedicated to showcasing art suitable for children.

Community Celebrations

Celebrate the nation’s birthday with your neighbours, family and friends at the many Community National Day celebrations happening all around the island. Showcase your “kampung” spirit and bond over food, drinks and hearty conversations at the parties organised by residents and grassroot leaders.

Gardens by the Bay

If you haven’t had the chance to visit this new landmark, then you have to visit it on National Day! Singaporeans born on August 9th will enjoy free entry to the cool conservatories. Just show up with your passport or identification card.

Marina Barrage

This is the perfect spot for families with small kids to gather and watch the fireworks display from a distance. Pack some finger food and sodas into a picnic basket and have a fun family picnic as the display goes off.
