7 Health and Wellness Trends That You Should Definitely Try

Find out about the biggest health trends and try them out for yourself

Most health buffs are always in the look-out for the next big trend. Trying out new things not only makes your wellness journey more interesting and fun, but it also helps you discover what works for you and what doesn’t.

Here are some up-and-coming health trends that everyone’s currently talking about. You might wanna check them out for yourself!

Matcha

Matcha tea isn’t like any other green tea. “When you drink traditional green tea, you’re drinking a steeped infusion of the tea leaves,” Jess Barron, Livestrong.com editor-in-chief, tells My Domaine. “With matcha tea you’re drinking a powder made from the ground tea leaves mixed with water. This means matcha provides a more potent amount of both caffeine and antioxidants than regular green tea.”

Cauliflower rice

As more people are saying no to carbs and gluten and trying out the paleo diet, cauliflower rice is rising in popularity. “It’s a low-carb, grain-free, paleo, and nutrient-rich substitute for regular rice,” Barron says. “With just 25 calories per 1/2 cup of cauliflower rice compared with about 140 calories per 1/2 cup cooked white rice, you can see why diet- and health-conscious [people] are loving this.”

Oil pulling

Marie France Asia lists oil pulling as one of the biggest health trends of the year. Said to draw out toxins, whiten your teeth, and improve your oral health, oil pulling is by no means a new thing. In fact, it’s an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique. How do you do it? Just take a tablespoon of oil (usually virgin coconut oil), swish it around your mouth for 20 minutes, then spit.

Cupping

Those circular marks on Michael Phelps’ body in the Rio Olympics gained the world’s attention, and now the ancient Chinese therapy is enjoying mainstream attention. An ancient Chinese medical therapy, cupping uses heated glass cups to stimulate blood circulation.

Physical therapist George Edelman tells Delaware Online that the goal of cupping is “to loosen the fascia, the membrane around muscle because it tightens with repeated use or injury.”

Meditation

Our lifestyles today are more hectic and busy than ever, so it isn’t any wonder that meditation has exploded in popularity. Meditation studios are popping up around the globe, and even app developers are getting their slice of the pie, with meditation apps like Buddhify, Calm, and Headspace.

“It’s no longer just your spiritual friend saying you should try meditation,” Manhattan studio MNDFL’s Lodro Rinzler tells Time. “It’s your doctor.”

Marie Kondo’s bestselling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up may have been released in 2011, but decluttering is still a rising trend in 2016. Kondo’s approach to decluttering involves placing your hands on your belongings and asking yourself if it brings you joy. If it doesn’t, you thank it for its service, then get rid of it.

Athleisure

According to Well+Good, more women are ditching jeans and opting for Lycra instead. Just look at how many celebrities are getting into athletic wear—Rihanna, Beyonce, Kate Hudson, and Behati Prinsloo are just some who got in the game.
