The 6 monthly medical examination is a mandatory health check that domestic helpers in Singapore need to go for. This regular health screening is required by the Ministry of Manpower.

Fortunately, there’s no need to worry about keeping track of the dates, as you’ll receive a notice from MOM when it’s time for your helper’s 6ME checkup. Here are a few other frequently asked questions about the 6ME checkup, and what you need to do.

What is the 6ME Checkup?

The 6ME checkup is a regular medical examination that domestic helpers need to complete, when they’re based in Singapore. This is part of the MOM’s regulations.

How will I know when the 6ME Checkup is required?

When it’s time for your domestic helper’s 6ME checkup, you will receive a letter and the 6ME form from MOM by post. Alternatively, if you’d like to check in advance, MOM also has an e-portal where you can look up the upcoming dates.

What tests are part of the 6ME Checkup?

The medical examination covers screening for general health, infectious diseases, and pregnancy. Specifically, these tests are:

  • Checks on Body Mass Index (BMI) and visible signs of abuse
  • Pregnancy and VDRL (a screening test for syphilis)
  • HIV
  • Tuberculosis

In the letter from MOM, you’ll also be informed which tests would be required for your helper’s 6ME checkup.

Where can the 6ME Checkup be done?

The 6ME checkup has to be conducted in a clinic by a doctor. To allow the checkup to be conducted in a neutral environment, MOM’s guidelines are that you (as an employer) should not be present in the examination room.

You can book a 6ME checkup at any of our 9 islandwide DA clinics. All you need to do is book a slot at least 7 days before your preferred appointment date and time.

How are the results of the 6ME Checkup submitted to MOM?

Generally, the results of the 6ME checkup will be submitted by the clinic you’ve screened at, on your behalf. For our DA Clinics, you will also receive a submission reference number, after the submission has been made.

If you’d like to retain a physical copy of the medical form, you can also let our clinic staff know. We’ll keep it for you at the clinic for 2 weeks.
