12 marriage tips that I've learnt over the years

10 Mar, 2012

Marriage can truly be an amazing journey or the exact opposite. Among the many things I've learnt in my life, here's a quick list of important lessons that I feel can be the secret to a happy and rewarding marriage.

Marriage can be a trying journey, but it is also an equally rewarding experience. Here are lessons, big and small, I've learnt over the years. All in all, trust your spouse, forgive them and do right by them. After all, you're in this journey with each other for life!
Lesson #1

Lesson #1

Being married can get boring, listless and dull OR it can be full of romance, fun, joy, laughter and wonderful memories. It’s your responsibility now to make it what you want it to become.
Lesson #2

Lesson #2

No matter how long you have been married, your spouse is going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.
Lesson #3

Lesson #3

You might not always agree with each other, and that’s okay. But it's important to fight fairly.
Lesson #4

Lesson #4

It takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.
Lesson #5

Lesson #5

You should never ruin an apology with an excuse. If you are sorry just say sorry and accept full responsibility of your action.
Lesson #6

Lesson #6

You shouldn’t compete with each other - 'cause you are playing for the same team.
Lesson #7

Lesson #7

Money is a lousy way of keeping score.
Lesson #8

Lesson #8

Sometimes when I’m angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn’t give me the right to be cruel or mean.
Lesson #9

Lesson #9

A happy marriage is made of equal parts of friendship and love.
Lesson #10

Lesson #10

Just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to, doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.
Lesson #11

Lesson #11

Just because two people argue, it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other. Similarly, just because they don’t argue, it doesn’t mean they do.
Lesson #12

Lesson #12

Even when you think you have no more to give, when your spouse cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.
