Project Wolbachia involves releasing male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes infected with the Wolbachia bacteria into urban environments.
Minister Fu acknowledged that as Zika is transmitted primarily by the same Aedes aegypti mosquito, Project Wolbachia holds the potential to reduce the risk of Zika outbreaks. However, she emphasized that the project should be viewed as a complementary approach rather than a substitute for effective mosquito prevention measures.

Minister Fu urged all residents to remain vigilant, particularly during the ongoing dengue season. She emphasized the importance of eliminating stagnant water sources and taking precautionary measures, such as spraying insecticides in hidden areas, applying insect repellent, and wearing protective clothing.
