A 30-year-old woman died after a car accident in Lentor Avenue on Tuesday, 5 November 2019. 

She, however, managed to push a two-year-old boy to out of the way before being hit—saving the boy’s life.

Woman who pushed toddler to safety dies

Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min Daily News reported that the woman was crossing the road while pushing the toddler in a stroller when the accident happened. 

The woman was unconscious when she was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where she later died. The two-year-old boy, on the other hand, was conscious when he was taken to the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

It was initially assumed on social media that the woman was the mother of the child in the stroller. However, Lianhe Zaobao reported that the woman is a domestic helper who was the child’s guardian at the time, and not the child’s mother.

Police alerted on Tuesday morning

The police said that they were alerted to the accident involving a car and two pedestrians in Lentor Avenue, towards Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6, at around 10.55am on Tuesday.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force had responded to the accident.

A 44-year-old man was later arrested for careless driving causing death, the police said.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing.
