A Victoria Junior College (VJC) student tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday (7 May). Due to this, more than 100 students and staff will be undergoing quarantine after Covid exposure.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Education (MOE) on Saturday (8 May), VJC has been thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting its school premises since the new case.

In MOE’s statement, the student was said to have been last in school on Wednesday (5 May).
After developing Acute Respiratory Infection symptoms later that day, she consulted a doctor on Thursday (6 May). The student then tested positive the following day.
For safety measures, 95 students and 8 staff members who have been in close contact with the student have been placed under quarantine after Covid exposure.
COVID-19 Swab Tests For The Rest Of Students And Staff

The rest of about 2,200 students, staff, vendors and visitors of VJC will also be undergoing COVID-19 swab tests by 10 May, as required by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
The 103 people who were exposed to the case and are quarantined will be taking the swab test separately.
With the increase of community cases recently, this is a necessary precautionary measure as it is an unlinked case.
Home-based learning activated for VCJ students
Since it will take some time for the swab tests to be complete and finalised, VJC will conduct full home-based learning from 10 to 14 May. Blended Learning is implemented regularly in the school so teachers and students are already familiar with online learning.
Through this, teachers will also remain in regular contact with students and parents.
MOE concluded their statement by saying they will continue to monitor the situation closely. They will be working with the school and the parents to ensure the well-being of every student and staff member.
“With the increase in the number of local cases over the past week, we urge all students and staff to continue practising good personal hygiene and adhering to Safe Management Measures,” says MOE.
The ministry adds that this includes wearing masks, washing hands frequently as well as wiping down equipment and tables. It is also advised that you immediately see a doctor if you are feeling sick and only return to school once fully recovered.
