Pregnancy for many parents is a time filled with wonder amid the multitude of changes—both mentally and physically—especially for mum. But for expectant mothers, navigating pregnancy in the age of a pandemic could leave them feeling overwhelmed and anxious during these uncertain times.

And just like new mum Vivien Yeo and TVB actress, all a mother wishes for is to give birth to a healthy baby during the coronavirus pandemic. Fortunately for the 35-year-old, that was the case as she took to her Instagram (27 April) to share news on her baby girl’s arrival.

As seen in the post on Monday, Yeo tenderly held her daughter’s small hand in hers. The baby girl was delivered in Yeo’s home country, Malaysia, after a C-section.

Born in Johor and based in Hong Kong, Yeo said that the current pandemic coupled with Malaysia’s lockdown made it a “difficult birth process” for her. According to the first-time mum, it was filled with many last-minute changes and emergencies.

Still, Yeo said that she was glad that her daughter was born safely.

The birth of her precious baby also came timely with Mother’s Day just around the corner. She wrote that it was “the most precious Mother’s Day gift in advance”.

“On Mother’s Day this year, I can finally celebrate as a mother”.

The baby girl that weighs 2.7kg is only known as VY, sharing the same initials as Yeo.

Vivien Yeo Gives Birth: Chose Not to Disclose Pregnancy

Just like how Yeo kept mum about her secret marriage with her then-boyfriend of 8 years, 38-year-old Yip Sai Yeung, she had chosen to do the same for her pregnancy.

The pair had gotten married overseas in early 2019, according to reports from Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao. But news of their marriage eventually got exposed last October.

And it turns out, Yeo handled the marriage in a low-key manner because her businessman husband was a non-celebrity.

It was only in December last year when Yeo was photographed in long dresses to hide her growing belly did speculations on her pregnancy arise, according to Ming Pao.

Yeo had always been slim but she was seen with a thick and straight waist and “wore a long coat to cover her belly”.

Even so, Yeo kept mum about it and returned to Malaysia after the Malaysia movement control order (MCO) was imposed on 18 March.

In her Instagram post, Yeo also showed her gratitude towards the Malaysian medical staff for the exceptional care and cheered on everyone else around the world in fighting against the pandemic, and hopes to overcome it as soon as possible.
