On 17 August, a tree collapsed at the intersection of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Old Jurong Road, reports Shin Min Daily News via Lianhe Zaobao.
A little Spanish boy aged five was hit by the tree at the time.
According to reports, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) had been notified of the accident at around 3pm and sent an ambulance to the scene. However, the little boy had already been taken to National University Hospital by the time the ambulance arrived.
A Facebook post by a friend of the family appealed to relatives and friends to pray for the boy’s recovery. But, a week after the incident (August 24), the little boy succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
Reportedly, doctors were not able to operate on the boy. His condition was deemed too unstable for this, and he remained in ICU until he died.
The little boy’s father had been working in Singapore and had recently moved his family here to be with him.
The tree had also fallen onto a car with passengers, and they all escaped unhurt.
We at theAsianparent offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of the little boy.
