National Day is just around the corner and celebrations for the nation’s 51st birthday are already starting. There are so many family NDP events and festivals happening all over the island and here are some of the best. Also, most of them are free!

#1 GetActive! By the Bay

Organised by Sport Singapore, this sporting event goes on for about a week at the Bayfront Event Space. There will be a wide range of sporting activities to be enjoyed including a gaming activity which encourages players to stay active when playing with an Xbox. There will also be interesting competitions held such as the SG51 National Day Bench Press Competition happening on 6 Aug.

 

#2 Families for Life National Day Picnic

No weekend in Singapore is free from family events! This fun filled event, organised by Families for Life, consists of games, activities and even a local movie screening. You and your family will be thrilled with activities such as designing a family coin bank, Zumba and more. There will also be bouncy castles and photographers going around to take family portraits as well. #3 Saturdays@ACM: Red and White

The Asian Civilisations Museum will be organising an NDP event on 6 Aug where patrons are encouraged to wear the national colour: red, and celebrate the nation’s birthday by going treasure hunting for red and white objects in the museum’s galleries. The full day event will start from 10am and consists of other activities such as yoga, parties and storytelling. There will also be performances from Zhenghua Primary School and ACT 3 International. #4 Let’s Lepak at Mount Faber

Mount Faber has adopted the car free concept and will be implementing the move from 6 Aug onwards. They will also start hosting the family event: Let’s Lepak at Mount Faber every first Saturday of the month and the event will consist of a multitude of workshops, performances and interactive games. With activities such as the Dance Painting Performance, Fuel Fit Functional Fitness Workout and Zumba, you definitely do not want to give this a miss!

#5 National Day Celebrations @ Gardens by the Bay

At Gardens by the Bay’s National Day event, you can choose to either sweat it out or simply relax with your family. There are a myriad of activities happening at the Gardens and on 7 Aug, get active with programmes such as Singapore’s 51st Birthday Bash Fitness Party and GetActive! Singapore Carnival. There is also a performance at the Supertree Grove by the Singapore Armed Forces Central Band and the Swiss Military Small Band, where they will be playing patriotic tunes.

Also, be sure not to miss out on the Orchid Extravaganza exhibition at the Flower Dome and the special Singapore edition of the Garden Rhapsody.

#6 National Day Celebrations at Esplanade

From the 7 – 9 Aug, the Esplanade will be hosting various National Day activities that ranges from musical performances to interactive games and exhibitions. This complimentary event will consists of performances by the well-known Deyi Military Band, Shirlyn & The UnXpected, Women Police Pipes & Drums and more. There will also be craft activities where you can have fun building a 3-metre high sculpture made completely out of cardboard and film screenings as well.

 

#7 Music Oasis 2016: A Nation Celebrates

On 6 Aug, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra will be playing multiple pieces that are mostly from local producers and musicians such as Wang Chenwei, Phoon Yew Tien, Eric Watsons and more. The latter’s piece actually includes an excerpt from late Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s speech. There will also be a special performance where Law Wai Lun’s re-arranged Medley of Television Drama Theme Songs and Medley of National Day Songs can be enjoyed.
