Stop tolerating

If you cannot stand something, why endure it? If you do not like something, why accept it? Only you have the power to change your life, instead of simply letting yourself be the victim of circumstances. If anyone treats you unfairly, for example, gather the courage to stop putting up with them like pushover. “Do more of what makes you happy”, eh?

Let go of everything and everyone toxic

Sever ties with the frenemy who keeps putting you down. Say goodbye to the job or boss that makes you feel horrible. Quit the habits that you know are not doing you any good. Walk away from any negative thoughts that are holding you back. Letting go can hurt, but the sooner you do it, the sooner you can start healing.

Stop being needy for validation

It just doesn’t make sense to care too much about having someone else’s approval on things you choose to do for yourself. You know it yourself if you have given something your best. Everyone’s likes and dislikes, goals and ideas differ, and there is no right or wrong as to how to live your life. People will not stop judging one another, but you can stop letting that change you. Remember: those who matter won’t mind, and those who mind won’t matter.

Let go of your mistakes

And learn to forgive yourself. It could be a harmless embarrassing moment that makes you cringe every time you are reminded of it, or it could be something you feel was a grave mistake. Reflecting and learning your lesson is more constructive than just wallowing in regret.

Stop the subscriptions that you don’t use

Membership to a gym you never step foot into, newsletters that you never read, subscription to a service you no longer utilise — why are you still paying for all this? That money can be put to better use in helping you achieve the goals you have for the coming year. Also, it just feels good to declutter!

Let go of your comfort zone

You will never experience new things that you might love if you keep holding on to the same old things. You will never grow and learn if you stay in your comfort zone. Challenge yourself to do something different.

Stop thinking that it’s too late

It is never too late for anything. (And even if it might be, better late than never!) Got a new interest you want to pursue? Go for it! You wouldn’t want to live a life full of what-ifs and what-could-have-beens. Reading this article on 20 January only to realise you have been putting off your New Year’s resolutions? No, it’s not too late to start!
