Shortly after my daughter was born, Hubby and I started making plans to add kiddy TV channels to our cable subscription. No, we didn’t do this so that we could use the TV to babysit our daughter; we thought that it would be good to expose her to some form of interactive learning through colours, sounds and movement whenever she took a break from exploring every corner of our home.
After doing some research and comparison on all the kids’ channels offered by various cable networks in Singapore, we chose Singtel’s mio TV. Why mio TV? We simply felt that it offered a good mix of channels for kids that showcase some of the best educational programmes in the world!
Kids channels under mio TV
Here’s a preview of what Junior can look forward to watching on mio TV:
Disney, Disney, Disney!
Who can resist the lovable mouse and his crew of friends? The list of shows under Disney channel has grown in both in numbers and popularity over the years. Disney’s shows are now spread across 3 sub-channels according to age groups. Tots and preschoolers can get their dose of learning and entertainment through Disney Junior; older kids and the rest of the family enjoy regular shows on Disney Channel, and last but not least, adrenalin junkies will appreciate Disney XD for some animated action and adventure!
The world of Nickelodeon
I can’t wait to introduce my daughter to some of the best shows on Nickelodeon such as the lovable SpongeBob Square Pants and The Legend of Korra! For now, she seems contented with toddler-friendly, play-learn shows on NickJr that takes her on exciting journeys and adventures with Dora the Explorer and The Bubble Guppies.
BabyTV
The short 5-minute shows on BabyTV never fail to get my toddler clapping and squealing away! With a nice mix of colourful characters, nursery rhymes and upbeat phrases (Hippa, Hippa Hey!), BabyTV offers specialised shows that cover early learning skills for infants and toddlers.
Discovering the world
Kids learn by exploring and observing their surroundings. The shows on the Discovery Kids channel encourage children to explore and unearth some of the awesome things in the world, from the most amazing wildlife to the wonders of science.
Hoping to get your little ones to brush up on their Mandarin? ETTV Yoyo features some of the best educational programmes for kids from Taiwan.
