Tennis superstar and new mom Serena Williams is fighting the most difficult challenge of her life yet: her teething baby.
A teething baby is a terrible thing to deal with. You don’t know what to do, nothing seems to work, and your heart breaks for your child’s obvious discomfort. Even one of the world’s top athletes, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion and former world number one, admits to being “so stressed” over her teething baby.
Williams, who gave birth to her daughter and first child Alexis Olympia in September, chronicled her struggles as a new mother recently on social media, tweeting on Dec 18 to her 10.2 million followers:
“Nothing is working. It’s breaking my heart. I almost need my mom to come and hold me to sleep cause I’m so stressed. Help? Anyone??”
She also documented her trials with a teething baby on Instagram, posting a photo of three-month-old Alexis.
“Teething- aka the devil – is so hard. Poor Alexis Olympia has been so uncomfortable. She cried so much (she never cries) I had to hold her until she fell asleep. I’ve tried amber beads… cold towels…. chew on mommies fingers…. homeopathic water (lol on that one) but nothing is working,” she said in her post.
“It’s breaking my heart. I almost need my mom to come and hold me to sleep cause I’m so stressed. Help? Anyone??” she said on her caption of the post.” she repeated.
Advice for a teething baby
Her followers were quick to give advice, due in part to her wide social media following. Fellow mothers on her Twitter feed were quick to offer advice, help, and support for her teething baby.
A lot of her followers suggested freezing baby Alexis’ teething ring, or even letting her chew on bananas. One even suggested freezing tiny bagels, saying:
Serena doesn’t just talk about her parenting problems on social media, she also shares her new discoveries as a mother and the joys that come with it. She wrote earlier this month: “Fellow moms: How long did you breastfeed? Is it weird that I get emotional when I even just think about when it’s time to stop?”
She tweeted: “Oh gosh. I’m one of those. I just said my baby’s “poop don’t stink”. Proud mom.”
“Omg Alexis Olympia is snoring. Omg I can’t take it it’s so cute. Totally perfect small snore.”
She even made an Instagram account for her baby so she can share more pictures of her and her baby.
Serena Williams is currently on break from professional tennis, and will return at the Australian Open next January.
