Rio was grappling with a heatwave, reaching an almost unbearable 59.3 degrees Celsius on Friday (Nov. 17). This extreme weather condition caused discomfort among fans who attended Swift’s concert at the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium.

A Heartbreaking Loss

In a tragic turn of events, a 23-year-old fan named Ana Clara passed away after attending the concert. According to the event organizer, Time4Fun, Ana Clara became unwell during the show and was immediately attended to by paramedics. Despite their best efforts, she sadly passed away after an hour of emergency care in the hospital. The cause of death, as reported by the Brazilian newspaper Fohla De Sao Paolo, was a cardiorespiratory arrest.

Swift took to Instagram to express her sorrow over the incident, “It is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show… she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”

Urgent Calls for Hydration

In light of these events, Justice Minister Flávio Dino declared that “water bottles for personal use, in suitable material, will be allowed” in Brazil. He further emphasized that event organizers must provide free and accessible drinking water during shows in high heat.
