Gender stereotypes have always been a problem in society. They create restrictions, and guidelines on how we think, judge, and act as people. Women are expected to display stereotypical femininity, and men are expected to be exaggeratedly manly.

As time goes by, we will work to diminish the role these stereotypes have in our society; however, until we eliminate these prejudices, we’ll have to take note of stories like the following…

A soldier, whose wife was hosting a baby shower, filled out a document requesting for a leave. He wanted to join his wife in celebrating the arrival of their child, however, his Commanding Officer denied his the right to go to the celebration claiming, “Men don’t go to baby showers.”

In response to this gender stereotype, the soldier/daddy crafted a pretty hysterical response that speaks of the absurdity of gender stereotypes, and is pretty much the most sarcastic thing you’ll read all week.

In his second request, he filled out the reason for his request as follows: “Going home to the Appalachian mountains to drink whiskey, wrestle bears and shoot lots of guns. I also plan to grow out a beard, chop down a hundred trees with my axe and eat 10lbs of thick cut bacon with my wife, whom I plan to have lots of unprotected sex with because I’m a man and that’s what we do. Football.”

The documents, which were shared to Reddit and Imgur, have gone absolutely viral. Skeptics question whether the document is genuine, but the fact remains, the posts work well to help eliminate stereotypes. Dads have every right to attend baby showers, and just because there’s no bear wrestling, bacon devouring, and beer drinking doesn’t mean they can’t be a part of the celebration of their baby.

This dad’s alleged response isn’t just hysterical, and a slap in the face to every stereotype related to masculinity, it’s a great way to encourage dads/expecting dads to break the mould and be the type of dad that they want to be; not what society sees fit.
