I am a working mum and believe me it can be a mammoth task juggling work and life together along with a four-year-old that refuses to understand anything, most of the times.

My day begins at 6:30 every day (yes, that’s way too early for some) and even by 10 in the night I have millions of things to finish and the little one is far from being wide asleep.

So, then I get on to finish the most important task of the day, which is to tell my munchkin a new story that is not similar to the one I told her yesterday, which is another tough thing to do. Don’t even ask me how I manage it every day!

However, these last four years of motherhood have calmed me as a person and I have figured out that you can actually be a super mum if you stay zen and follow a few golden rules.

Here are six cool working mum rules that work for me. You can try them too!

1. Plan your day in advance

Whether it is packing the school bags or getting your bag ready with important documents and making the to-do list, it is always good to be organised. Schedule a time of the day that you are free.

That could be late in the night or early in the morning when your little one is fast asleep. This would also give you some time alone and you can work at peace and maybe have a cup of tea while at it.

2. Have a to-do list

If you have to be a super mum, you have to be organized. That goes without saying. But, how do you go about it? For starters, make a to-do list at the beginning of the day and label things as urgent, not so urgent and carryforwards. This would give you a clear idea of your day and you would be able to dedicate a good amount of time on urgent tasks

3. Make a weekly food menu

The snack and lunch box of your kids is very important and you can never ignore them, come what may. Having a weekly menu, where you properly list food items for breakfast, lunch and dinner would not only make your life easy, it would also leave the mother in you a satisfied person at the end of the day. Trust me.

4. Create your own working mum community

It’s always good to have support so that you are aware of the things that are happening around you, at school or at daycare. Having a daycare mommies group or a school group of all mums would not only keep you in the thick of things, but it would also help you feel better at the end of the day.

Believe me, am a part of three groups and I have come to know of pressing issues through my other mommy friends. They can also help you in times of crisis such as on days you get stuck in a traffic jam!

5. Have a timeout with your kid every day

Am sure you have that working mum guilt almost every other day. But instead of pondering over things, why don’t you assign some part of the day (even 15 minutes would do) when you spend quality time with your daughter.

You could have a heart to heart chat with her or do some activity together. That’s for you to decide, but make sure you dedicate some time with your little baby. They are the ones who need us the most.

6. Lastly, when things go out of control, laugh it out!

Am sure even the best of super mums have screwed up under pressure. And if you happen to be one of them, relax! It’s not the end of the world. You would get it right someday for sure!

In the meanwhile, as there is no point in procrastinating, laugh your heart out to let go of the stress. Believe me, it works! Laughter therapy is now a part of yoga and has even cured terminally ill patients, says science. Try it out!
