The MDAC, put in place since December 1, 2023, is a mandatory requirement for all foreigners visiting Malaysia. Designed to streamline the visa application process, this digital tool also serves as an additional security measure. However, there’s a transitional period till December 31, 2023, during which visitors can fill in the MDAC upon arrival at Malaysian checkpoints. But come 2024, the rules tighten; visitors must complete the digital card “two or three days” before setting foot in Malaysia.
Who’s Exempted from Filling the MDAC?
But here’s the good news for Singaporeans and a few other groups: you’re exempted from this requirement! Besides Singaporeans, the following groups are also off the hook, like holders of:
- Permanent Malaysian passports and Malaysian long-term passes
- Brunei common identification certificates (GCI) and Brunei Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility
- Thai border passes
- Indonesian Cross-Border passes
The MDAC exemption applies to “repeat travellers” frequenting Malaysia’s borders, aiming to prevent congestion at international entry points.
