There have been quite a few news reports that are a shameful portrayal of Singaporeans—all caught on video. There was a man that shoved an old lady off a bus, a verbal spat between and Ah Lian and an Auntie, two men fighting on the MRT and now a man kicking and punching a pregnant tourist.
The story
In the video clip you’ll see a man getting up from his seat to attack the pregnant lady, Xiao Xia. He was not satisfied even after she fell down—he kicked her repeatedly. By that time, a crowd had gathered in the defense of the 20-year-old pregnant woman but the attacker was relentless.
The drama went down at the food court in Peace Centre. Reports say that he lunged at her after she splashed some soup on him by accident. In the end, the attacker offered the Chinese tourist $500 as a compensation.
Money can’t pay for a life
$500 is not an acceptable amount. You cannot pay your way out of a crime. What if the pregnant lady had a miscarriage? The baby could have been harmed as the fetus is still forming. Xiao Xia is after all only 2 months pregnant. The victim told Lianhe Wanbao that she felt pain in her tummy area after the man attacked her.
She had refused the compensation money as it was given insincerely. Fortunately, the medical check up after the attack shows that the baby is doing fine.
Her story
Xiao Xia was having supper with her friends and three guys came by to share their food court table as the place was crowded. Mid meal, Xiao Xia picked a piece of meat and it fell into a bowl of soup causing a splatter of liquid that splashed on the man’s face.
Then almost instantly, Xiao Xia was punched in the face. This is no way to treat a lady—pregnant or not. Understandably, Xiao Xia chided the man and that was when he got out of his seat to attack her with full force, spewing loads of profanities as he attacked her. The man went as far as to kick her in the stomach and stomped on her legs.
Some other witnesses of the account said that Xiao Xia was apologizing repeatedly for the soup-splashing incident. But he continued attacking.
What’s happening to society?
