Singaporean Daryl Tan Hong An currently holds between 11 and 12 Guinness World Records for unconventional speedcubing challenges—more than any other cuber globally. His feat of technical skill and creativity includes solving puzzle cubes while juggling, sprinting, hanging upside down, and underwater.

Among his most notable records is the fastest time to solve a 3×3×3 Rubik’s Cube underwater, clocking 9.29 seconds in June 2023. This swim-challenge style record highlights his ability to combine breath-holding with dexterity under pressure.

Athletic Spin on Cubing

Tan has created records in creative formats such as solving while suspended upside-down with one hand, sprinting 100 m and solving on the move in 13.61 seconds, and other athletic-themed cubing feats.

On one occasion in 2021, he broke seven world records in a single day, including solves underwater, one-handed solves, and multi-cube breath-hold sessions—demonstrating both endurance and finger-speed on display together.

Current Activity & Future Moves

Beyond record-breaking, Tan now coaches speedcubing on weekends, teaching both children and adults through formal sessions. His aim is to bring cubing into mainstream recognition and to inspire young people to embrace 3D puzzles over screen time.
