School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporeans-Secondary (SPERS-Sec)

The Ministry of Education recently released a statement for Singaporeans returning from overseas. It is precisely for individuals who wish to enrol in a secondary school next year.

The School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporeans – Secondary Levels is a centralised placement exercise they conduct yearly. It has a merit-based system for returning Singaporeans who wish to enrol in secondary school the following year.

The placement exercise is not compulsory and does not guarantee admission to your school of choice. In truth, the arrangement is meant to offer easier access to centralised courses.

If you are an applicant, you need to sit for one set of centralised tests. Afterwards, the Ministry of Education matches you to a suitable school based on your results. The suggested placements also consider your school choices and available vacancies.

Interested students who are seeking admission to Secondary 1 to 3 can watch out for the applications in July. Furthermore, these students will start their next school year in January of the following year.

COVID-19 Restrictions

Due to the COVID-19 situation, the SPERS-Sec and SPE exercise will align with the national safe management measures. Facilitators will monitor and practice safety health protocols leading up to the finalised testing dates.

All candidates must complete their Stay-Home Notice (SHN), Isolation Order (IO) and prevailing guidelines by the Ministry of Health. It is essential to ensure the safety of the candidates and examiners.

Meanwhile, candidates with Health Risk Warning (HRW) should not report to the test venue. Regarding this, it will be best to use the Assured School Placement Service.

It is a convenient admission route that will guarantee your child’s admission into a school with vacancies near your residence. It will also ensure vacancies even before they return to Singapore.
