“I cannot believe you would rather me have an abortion than make any more sacrifices regarding your gym time.”

Having a baby is hard work for both parents. There’s the physical exhaustion of actually growing a human being, and then don’t even get us started on the sleepless nights after the baby arrives.

One man has responded in a very extreme manner after his partner and the mother of his 15-month-old child asked for help given she’s currently six weeks pregnant.

“I was SO exhausted”

The mum-of-one posted to Reddit about an argument she’d recently had with her partner.

“During the newborn phase, I was SO exhausted,” she wrote in her post.

“I was breastfeeding, the baby had colic, I was in pain with three second-degree tears, etc. I do not easily fall asleep so after waking up with the baby at night, it would typically take me another 30 minutes to fall back asleep, and I was roughly getting 2.5 hours of sleep a night for a good 3-5 weeks.”

She went on to say that her husband had cut back on his gym time in order to be around to help out, but he was still going three-to-five times a week. Even though she’s always worked full time outside of several weeks off to give birth, there was still conflict over how much time he spent working out compared to the help he offered at home.

“Now that I’m pregnant again, I mentioned to him, ‘If I thought the last time was really hard and overwhelming, how the hell am I supposed to get through it while also having a 23-month-old?’,” she continued.

“I told him this meant he was going to have to help out more and probably not go to the gym as much.”

“You need to think about if you want this baby”

The woman said this comment did not go down well at all and resulted in the following text the next day:

“Just to be clear, I feel like I do a lot. I will not be able to help out with daycare, as I drive a work truck and cannot have another passenger in my car. I will continue to go to the gym, because health is important to me and I need to go to relieve stress. The reason you’re so stressed is because you choose to hold and entertain our daughter all the time, while I think it’s OK to let her cry if she’s bored. You need to think about if you want this baby.”

“I said, ‘I cannot believe you would rather me have an abortion than make any more sacrifices regarding your gym time’. But he is adamant that I am the selfish one,” she wrote.

The internet was not kind

Understandably, the internet rallied behind the pregnant mum with support and some shade was thrown in for her partner in the process.

“He literally thinks you are fully responsible for this child and any bit he chips in is going above and beyond,” commented one person.

Another said, “He basically just admitted that if he’s watching the kid(s) he fully intends to just let them cry while he does whatever he wants.”

“I wonder how would he feel if she said she’s going to the beauty salon for an hour a day, you know, to release stress,” added another.

And one doesn’t hold out hope for much to change: “People don’t change and he seems a horridly angry vindictive small person and you should leave with your kid.”
