Growing up in British Columbia, Ryan Reynolds spent a lot of time in the great outdoors, and he wants his kids to have the same kind of childhood as well.
“I’m a big outdoorsman. My relationship with the outdoors is a long, storied one and something I value greatly,” Reynolds told People at the campaign launch of The One Tree initiative and #Hug2Give.
Reynolds has always valued nature and the outdoors, but becoming a parent has really motivated him to actually do something about climate change. He recently joined Eddie Bauer as its philanthropic ambassador, to promote the brand’s partnership with American Forests.
“Having kids really sort of drilled home the point that what we have here is fleeting and we need to save it”
“I want my kids to experience the same kind of childhood I had, which was you could run around in fresh air and be one with nature,” Reynolds told Yahoo. “I’ve always been an environmentalist, but having kids really sort of drilled home the point that what we have here is fleeting and we need to save it.”
Though his daughter is only a year old, Reynolds loves taking her out to hikes.
The Deadpool star went on to say that he often takes he and wife Blake Lively’s 1-year-old daughter hiking “I love doing it with my family,” he told People. “I take my daughter with me all the time on hikes. My wife is just extraordinarily pregnant, so there’s not a lot of hiking going on, which I’m told is my fault!”
