In her first solo interview since marrying Prince William in 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge revealed royal family tidbits.

She describes the queen as a “doting grandmother” to Prince George and Princess Charlotte and “she always leaves a little gift or something in their room” when Kate brings the kids to visit her.

Another cute little thing she shared was how Prince George has taken to fondly calling his grandmother, the Queen, ‘Gan-gan’.

“It’s very special having a new little girl. I feel very, very lucky that George has got a little sister. As soon as we came back here to Kensington she was one of our first visitors.”

“I think she’s very fond of Charlotte. Always watching what she’s up to. George is only two and a half and calls her Gan Gan.”

The Duchess has recently taken over the Queen’s duties as the patron All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, hosts of Wimbledon; a post she has held for over 60 years.

In the interview, Kate recalls a memorable bonding experience she had with the Queen when they went on a regional tour as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations back in 2012.

“Everyone teases me in the family that I spend far too long chatting.”

“The most memorable engagement for me was an away-day to Leicester,” she continues. “I went without William, so I was rather apprehensive about that. I think there is a real art to walkabouts. Everyone teases me in the family that I spend far too long chatting. So I think I’ve still got to learn a little bit more and to pick up a few more tips I suppose.”

“She’s been very generous in not being forceful at all and in any of her views, but I feel she’s been there, a gentle guidance really for me,” recounts Kate.

She goes describe the Queen as being very supportive.

“The fact she took the time to make sure that I was happy and looked after for that particular occasion, which probably in everything that she’s doing is a very small element,” marvels Kate. “It shows just how caring she is really.”
