I live on the east side, and I’m sure most of you who live in the east have been to Parkway Parade in the Marine Parade area. It is central, it has ample parking and the shops are great!
So there I was on a spontaneous shopping trip (the best kind!) and had gotten well and truly carried away. In my defense, the kids were at a play-date and I had the afternoon all to myself.
But eventually, guilt set in so I asked my husband to come over with the kids to Parkway Parade so we could have dinner together.
We wanted to go someplace we hadn’t been to before and that’s how we found ourselves at TOBY’S. Yes, in the many times I’ve been to Parkway Parade I’ve never once been to TOBY’s.
TOBY’S is very family-friendly. Its interior is very colourful and during the day it is bathed with natural light.
The location
I asked myself why I hadn’t been there before, and the answer could be the location. TOBY’S is on the 2nd floor of Parkway Parade but quite at the corner, so you may miss it as it is located away from the other restaurants at the mall.
Once we got there, the place started filling up and I was happy to see that there were many kids too.
If you find it a bit hard to locate TOBY’S it’s probably because it is located at a corner of the second floor of Parkway Parade.
The ambience
The restaurant is quite open, which gives you the feeling that you are dining alfresco. The interior is well-ventilated and well-lit, especially during the day when there’s ample natural light pouring in.
The atmosphere is very casual, colourful and inviting.
TOBY’S offers a selection of pizzas as well. This one is a spicy chicken pizza.
The staff
The staff at TOBY’s are lovely. They are friendly and know the menu through and through. They even entertain requests to alter the spice-levels of your meal!
I also noticed several of the staff members cheerfully acknowledging regular customers, which no doubt made the customers feel welcome.
The food
TOBY’S aspires to serve ‘American diner’ style food. Although the name suggests they serve mainly desserts, what you may not know is that they have a very wide selection of savoury items as well.
In addition to their regular printed menu, they also have a digital menu which the waiters would have with them when taking your order. So, if you wish to see pictures of the food, just ask them and they will oblige.

Here are some of the dishes we tried at TOBY’S:
The Spicy Hot Wings ($8.95) came highly recommended by the staff and we were up to trying it — and what a good decision on our part!
The wings were everything you want your wings to be — super crispy with a succulently juicy centre, very flavourful (I tasted southern flavours) and definitely not greasy. It comes with a creamy sauce that has a spicy punch.
Spicy Hot Wings — This is surprisingly NOT greasy.
Since I was already at TOBY’S and enjoying the food (having devoured 2 wings), I had a lightbulb moment and thought of doing this review. So we decided to order a selection of mains to taste.
First to come along was one of their best-sellers — TOBY’S Deluxe Burger ($16.50). It comes with a side of fries and I was told by the staff that there was a surprise inside the patty.
Upon cutting the burger to share it with my husband, out oozed gooey, cheesey ‘lava.’ It made the burger deliciously moist and decadent.
The sautéed onions also gave the burger a superb crunch. My husband and I definitely give 4 thumbs up for this burger!
This was as good as it looks — with a surprise hidden within!
Next we chose the Stewed Pork ($12.95) from the Baked Items list. You have the choice of penne pasta or rice to accompany your baked item. We chose penne.
The stewed pork itself was juicy and tender, with great flavour. It had a hint of caramel-y sweetness that goes so well with pork.
Personally, I felt that the penne didn’t add much to the dish and neither did the cheese. I have a feeling the rice would better complement the pork.
Soft, succulent stewed pork, topped with loads of cheese. Forget about the calories — just indulge!
We also ordered the BBQ Baby Ribs ($19.95) from their House Specials. It comes with either potato salad, fries or garlic rice. We chose garlic rice.
The marinade had flavoured the ribs really well, resulting in a well-rounded flavour. The garlic rice was a great choice with the ribs; the garlic flavour was rather mellow but definitely there.
I would definitely go back to TOBY’S to have this dish!
My favourite dish among everything we tried — the BBQ baby ribs.
Of course, we had to try a pasta dish and since my hubby loves marinara anything, we went with the Spicy Marinara Spaghetti ($17.95).
This will definitely satisfy your spicy food cravings and although it is nothing extraordinary to rave about, it is not disappointing either. It is quite hearty and tasty.
This seafood marinara pasta packs a punch with its spiciness.
But what I was waiting for was their dessert — after all, TOBY’S is known as an “asylum” for dessert lovers, isn’t it?
Well, needless to say, the range of desserts are just awesome. There’s a dessert to address every kind of dessert craving you may have!
From cakes and cheesecakes to mud pies and sundaes — TOBY’S has got it all!
Totally bamboozled by the many choices and feeling rather like a kid in a candy store, I struggled to pick just one dessert. So I asked the lovely manager for her recommendations.
Who doesn’t love an Oreo cheesecake! TOBY’s dessert lineup certainly has something to suit every dessert craving.
She asked me to try the ‘Black or White’ ($9.95) — an Oreo cheesecake served with mocha almond ice cream.
It was a good pick and I loved it very (very, very) much. It was very decadent but delicious nevertheless.
We also ordered the ‘TO-BY or Not TO-BY’($10.95) — a double-layered mud cake with rum and raisin ice cream and double choc chip ice cream. If you are craving for ice cream, this will no doubt satisfy!
TO-BY or not TO-BY mud pie. All the mud pies at TOBY’S are of considerable proportions! Don’t worry, no one will judge you if you can finish this all by yourself!!
Is TOBY’S kid-friendly?
Yes. Very! They have a kids’ menu which features some kid-favourites such as fish and chips, spaghetti bolognaise, and ham and cheese pizza squares (which my kids tried) and more.
They even have a kids’ club where you can pay a yearly fee of just $10 and enjoy free drinks, mains and dessert when you order a drink, main and dessert.

TOBY’s is open from 11 am to 10 pm on Mondays to Fridays and from 9 am to 10 pm on Saturday and Sunday. You can just walk in to TOBY’s or call +65 6346 2435 to make a reservation.
