Are you a foodie? Then you must have heard about DiningCity’s Singapore Restaurant Week — which is back with a bang this month. If you enjoy trying out delicious dishes, then it’s also highly likely your children are little gourmands too.

If this is the case, then you and your kids will be very happy to hear that on the 18th and 19th of October, DiningCity will introduce Kids Restaurant Weekend for the very first time in Singapore!

A welcome treat at The Moluccas Room

Similar to Singapore Restaurant Week’s format, children will dine in style with a host of three-course kids’ menus specially designed to tantalise their tastebuds.

Here is a review of some of the delicious dishes that will be on offer during Kids Restaurant Weekend, particularly at The Moluccas Room, which specialises in authentic Indonesian cuisine with a modern flair.

The kids’ menu

Parents will be pleased to know that The Moluccas Room’s offerings for kids are uniquely Indonesian — you certainly won’t find the usual dry chicken nuggets and fries there.

Instead, children will be treated to a beautifully cooked and presented 3-course meal full of the flavours of Indonesia, made suitable for kids’ palates.

The meal for young ones costs a reasonable $15++, inclusive of either apple or orange juice.

Soto Ayam

Soto is a traditional Indonesian soup made up mainly of broth, meat and vegetables. In the case of The Moluccas Room’s Soto Ayam, the meat included in the soup is chicken (ayam = chicken).

Prepared especially for kids, this hearty soup does not pack a chili punch at all, but still has subtle hints of various spices. The chicken is tender and aromatic, and the addition of fresh cherry tomatoes and herbs makes the dish a ‘healthier’ one, too.

The main course for the kids’ meal that we got to sample was Ayam Gulung. Gulung is the Indonesian word for “roll.”

Ayam Gulung

This tasty Indonesian delicacy comes beautifully plated. The chicken is very tender, with scrumptious, crispy skin, while the rice is gently flavoured with turmeric.

The surprise element of this dish is a small serving of deliciously sweet and tender baby eggplant — perfect for little ones to savor and enjoy!

Chocolate Fudge Cake

In keeping with the DiningCity theme of ‘Chocolate’ for Singapore Restaurant Week this year, the dessert on the kids’ menu is this little chocolate cake accompanied with a blob of vanilla ice cream in a little pastry case.

The manager of The Moluccas Room explained that this dessert actually originated from their Coklat Gurih Pedas (Refreshing Spicy Rich Chocolate Fudge Cake with a scoop of their homemade ice cream) which is featured as part of the regular Restaurant Week Menu.

Of course, the kids’ version is not spicy in order to keep little tummies and tastebuds happy. Although it is not the best fudge cake out there, kids will still enjoy its chocolate-y flavor.

Singapore Restaurant Week — The Moluccas Room set lunch menu

The Moluccas Room’s 3-course set lunch menu during Singapore Restaurant Week costs $25++ per pax, inclusive of soup, a main dish and dessert.

For this review, we feature the restaurant’s version of Sup BrenabonAyam Paniki and Ikan Dabu Dabu Lilang.

Sup Brenabon is made with chunks of surprisingly tender Manadonese beef and kidney beans. Light and flavourful, it is a great way to start your meal.

Ayam Paniki

Paniki is actually a dish originating from Sulawesi in Indonesia, which is traditionally cooked using bat meat.

The Moluccas Room’s variation of the dish, however, features grilled chicken deliciously cooked in coconut sauce, with fresh hints of lemongrass and the spiciness of red chili.

Ikan Dabu Dabu Lilang

This fish dish originates from Lilang in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Dabu dabu is a spicy condiment that is usually found in North Sulawesi’s Manado cuisine.

The flavorful broth and perfectly cooked fish of The Moluccas Room’s Ikan Dabu Dabu Lilang certainly makes it one of our favorites — a must-try when you visit the place!

So, parents, if you are wondering where to head to this coming weekend (18th and 19th of October) with your little ones, go ahead and visit The Moluccas Room!

You can rest assured there will be lovely food for everyone to eat, and maybe you can learn a thing or two about Indonesia as well.
