7 Reasons Why I'm Ecstatic About Not Having to Breastfeed Anymore

7 Reasons Why I'm Ecstatic About Not Having to Breastfeed Anymore

Sure, breastfeeding is the most beautiful thing you can do for your baby, but you can't deny how great freedom feels once they start weaning

I’m sure many mums out there might feel guilty yelling, “I’m so glad to be done with breastfeeding!”

But without question, breastfeeding can and has been a complete nightmare for many new mums.

Breastfeeding is never a great thing when you have latching problems or lack of supply – and it is ok to admit that.

Here’s 7 reasons why I’m ecstatic about not having to breastfeed anymore:

#1 I’m no longer sharing my body

1

Nobody owns my body now. I am a free woman. I can wear whatever I want. I no longer have to think of baby-wearing tips for breastfeeding or worry about whether I left the house with extra breast pads or not. I can be me again!

#2 I can wear ‘normal’ bras again

2

I no longer need to wear bras with clips that make me sweat so much. I can wear my favourite push-up bra or my good ol’ comfy wireless bra that’s so much more comfortable – it’s pure bliss.

#3 I don’t have to constantly be around nursing-friendly places

2

I no longer have to worry about not being in the vicinity of nursing-friendly shopping centres and definitely will never encounter problems scouting for nursing rooms in new premises ever again because there’s no need for that anymore.

#4 I will no longer be half an hour late for everything

2

For a working mum with 2 or 3 other kids running around, you will realise that the amount of time spent pumping milk for your baby is equivalent to the time it takes to cook breakfast for the whole family, which ultimately means that being late for everything is the new normal.

#5 I can eat and drink whatever I want to my heart’s content

2

YES I CAN! Without having to worry about it affecting my milk supply or contaminating whatever nutrients that’s left in my milk. I can drink my tea, have the occasional wine, and not have to worry what vitamins should or shouldn’t go into my system.

#6 My husband no longer has the option to escape 3am feeding

2

When my baby cries in the wee hours of the morning, I now have the power to foist the little one onto my husband and remind him gently that I did this for a year, so it’s his turn now. Wicked!

#7 I have more time to spare for my other children

2

With each kid, my time is stretched thinner and thinner. No matter how great you feel about breastfeeding your baby, there are only so many hours in the day (and night). With breastfeeding out of the way, I feel like I can finally focus on the other (slightly) neglected kids.

What are your thoughts on breastfeeding and weaning? We would love to hear from you!
