Years 1 to 4 students at Raffles Institution will be on full home-based learning (HBL) after a stall assistant at the school’s canteen tests positive for Covid-19. The students will start HBL on Monday (19 July).
According to a letter to parents and guardians on Sunday (18 July) signed by Raffles Institution principal Frederick Yeo, this safety measure is in order for the school to facilitate deep cleaning and disinfection of their canteen.

The stall assistant from the Raffles Institution’s canteen tested positive for infection on Saturday (17 July). The Straits Times reports she was last in school on Friday. The school also says she was still feeling well on that day.
“Preliminary information obtained from the stall assistant is that, apart from collecting payment for meals from students and staff, which typically took a few seconds, the stall assistant had minimal contact with them,” says the letter, as per ST.
The School To Continue Implementing Safe Management Measures
Raffles Institution will also be conducting contact tracing. The school will look into information gathered from TraceTogether tokens and apps to identify students as well as the staff who were in close contact with the stall assistant.
Those who are found to have been in close contact with the stall assistant will be placed on a leave of absence. Parents of these students will either receive an SMS or be contacted by the Ministry of Health (MOH) with instructions.
The school will also keep parents and guardians updated through the Parents Gateway app.
“We would like to assure you that the school has been and will continue to tightly implement safe management measures. This includes cleaning high-touch surfaces regularly and disinfecting our premises regularly,” says the school’s letter to parents.

Aside from the canteen stall assistant from Raffles Institution, other schools also face positive Covid-19 cases. This includes six students and one staff member. The schools affected from the past week are of the following:
