Preschoolers having weight problems

Is your preschooler spending hours in front of the mirror moping about her weight?

In a research conducted by the University of Central Florida, it was discovered that many preschool-age girls are worried about their weight. Of the 121 girls surveyed, 31 percent were always worried about being fat. Experts say that little girls who always worry about their weight are most likely to have  eating disorders when they are older.

The researchers believe that the media’s portrayal of “beauty” greatly affects the self-image of children. This is a challenge for parents to limit the time that their children spend in front of the television and to be more active in nurturing their children’s self-esteem.
