Most husbands treat their pregnant wives like goddesses—catering to their every whim and fancy. After all, a pregnant woman is like a living miracle, nourishing and growing a small being inside her—so of course she should be cared for and given special attention.

A double tragedy
However, one pregnant woman was not lucky enough to have that love—in fact, she was not even able to live long enough to bring her baby to term. You’d ask what has happened to mankind when you find out just how cruel some people can get and what drives people to commit such atrocities.
Reports say that in rural Nepal, a man was arrested after he allegedly murdered his young wife. Maina Bardewa Bhitrikoti, 22, was four months pregnant. She perished when her husband allegedly stuffed her into a bale of hay and set it on fire.
Superintendent police in the Morang district, Niraj Jha commented: “We received a call from the husband that the woman had gone missing, but when our officers arrived on the scene they saw the body and were suspicious.” When she was discovered, half of Maina’s body had been consumed by the flames.
A grieving mother
Our condolences to Maina’s mother who lost both her daughter and grandchild to this merciless murder. She had shared with a local daily, The Himalayan Times, that she had plans to see her daughter the day of her tragic demise to talk about the “domestic issues” she had said to be encountering lately.
According to reports the couple tied the knot about two years ago and Prithvi had just come home eight months ago from working in Qatar.

Stop domestic violence
If you are suffering from domestic violence or suspect someone is experiencing domestic violence at home—it is time to step up and stop the pain and suffering. No one deserves to be abused. Don’t take the blame or live in denial. The situation can only get worse. Realise that only you can stop this.
Domestic violence is a very complex problem and simple solutions just don’t exist. In many instances, the victim has no other choice but to leave the abusive relationship before a death happens—like in the case above. Talk to a counselor and seek help now. Know that you are not alone and there are people out there that will assist you in this time of need.
There are agencies like the Center for Promoting Alternatives to Violence (PAVe) and The National Family Violence Networking System– just to name a couple. PAVe’s main goal is to promote positive alternatives to violence in the lives of people experiencing interpersonal violence with remedial services. Call for help before it is too late!
