Pregnant Mums Receive Free Durian From Kind Seller
A 29-year-old stall owner, Rizki Andri Andri Zainintawa, loves giving away free durian to pregnant women daily. He wants to take advantage of the durian season and make it accessible to soon-to-be mums.
Mr Rizki Zainintawa owns three stalls; they are located in Taman Medan, Gombak, and Kota Damansara. According to him, he is doing it to keep his mother.
“She told me to be kind to others when I am successful. It is my way of honouring my word and giving back to society,” said the stall owner.
Mr Zainintawa tells a story about two to three years ago in Taman Medan. He said that there was an instance when he stumbled upon a pregnant woman on a motorcycle. At that time, the woman was with her husband and a child.
“She was craving durian but could not afford it,” the stall owner explained. “I called her over and asked if she wanted some of the fruit, to which she said yes.”
He then decided to give her a durian for free. According to him, he then decided to do this for expectant mothers ever since. However, he usually offers the fruit for free during the durian’s peak harvest season.
Aside from fulfilling a promise to his mum, he also said that he understands what pregnant women are going through. Mr Zainintawa added that he understands the pregnancy food cravings of women. It is because his wife is currently pregnant with their second child.
Moreover, the stall owner says that pregnant mums can pick between the IOI Hajah Hasmah or Udang Merah varieties.
He also said there is no need for pregnant women to prove they are pregnant. He would never require them to bring along their “pink book,” which records the progress of their pregnancy.
In Mr Zainintawa’s stall in Kota Damansara, he also throws in free durian cendol for pregnant mums. He has been generous in giving away the King of Fruits. He does not want to limit the number of pregnant women turning up at his stalls.
“All they need to do is tell my staff, ‘I am pregnant.’ No questions asked.”
One pregnant woman can get a durian for free a day. Additionally, they can even come again in the subsequent days as well.
“I will not be at a loss with the giveaway,” he said.
The stall owner said that there were plenty of durians to eat. He also claimed that he gives as sincerely as possible.
Mr Rizki Zainintawa has been in the business for over a decade now. He sources his supply of up to nine tonnes of durian, including Musang King, D24, IOI Hajah Hasmah and Udang Merah, from farms in Pahang and Johor.
“For as long as I can, I will continue with this effort,” said the stall owner.
