Scandal star Kerry Washington rarely disappoints on the red carpet, but for the 68th Emmy Awards, she really outdid herself.

The very pregnant actress made it to numerous best-dressed lists with a form-fitting cut-out dress by Brandon Maxwell and natural hair.

“When you’re a pregnant lady on the red carpet, you need to feel like a superhero,” she told Extra.

Washington, 39, is expecting her second child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha. Their first child, Isabelle Amarachi, was born in April 2014.

“I’m close, I’m close,” she said when asked about her due date. “If you see me scooting across stage, it’s ’cause we have another week of shooting—we’ve got to keep it inside.”

The actress also had to film Scandal episodes during her last pregnancy, and spoke about the experience to Hollywood Reporter.

“All of last season was a challenge for me, on a few levels,” she said. “For one thing, I was going through this amazing physical transition, this physical journey of having a baby, that my character was not going through. And I work very physically.

“What I do is often grounded in the body. That meant I had to figure out how to be this woman while my instrument was changing and evolving every day. It was like seeing the keys on a piano jump around on a daily basis. It was tough for me to even maintain Olivia’s walk because of the changes.”

This year, Washington was nominated for her work in the television movie Confirmation.
