Books are slowly being replaced by video games and handheld devices as the ultimate form of entertainment for kids. However, there is yet to be an equivalent that can replace the emotions that a good book can incite. The wizarding world of Harry Potter
J.K Rowling is a true artist. She draws her readers into an amazing world weaved in between fantasy and reality. She has written a series of seven books on the life of a wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione.
The first book is exceptionally engaging with themes that children can relate to, for example new friendships mixed with a dash of adventure and magic. A word of caution though, books four, five and six in the series have a darker tone to them with themes about death and murder. Thus, it is up to parents to practice caution when introducing these books.

The wonderful world of Roald Dahl
From this master storyteller, we have gained a wide range of literary gems, and the best part is that these popular books for kids cater to a wide range of reading levels as well.
Some of my personal favourites are Matilda, the Fantastic Mr. Fox and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. These books are classics and will bring us back to our own childhood, and yet they resonate just as strongly in the new millennium.
