Every year, there are over 10,000 traffic accidents in Singapore, and over 60 of these accidents lead to pedestrian fatalities. In the US, over 50,000 kids are injured as pedestrians. Nearly a thousand of those kids die, and around 5,000 are hospitalized due to their injuries.
Sadly these lives could have been saved, if only they were supervised. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics , child pedestrians should not be unsupervised before 10 years of age, and parents should be aware of the dangers of vehicle back-over injuries to children playing in driveways.
To find out more about pedestrian safety watch this video of Ben Jablonski, who was struck by a car in a school zone, and his mother’s advice to other parents on how to prevent similar accidents.
