5 Park Connector Loops In Singapore That You Must Check Out

6 min read

Think of ways Singapore tries to impress you and by the time you are done, there will be at least one more reason joining that list.

The island is known for many things and quality life is certainly one of them. While the little country is known to be a concrete jungle, we do have little spurts of nature here and there that keep the greens all over. In the city, it's certainly the parks doing all the heavy lifting and we have plenty of them around.

And the Park Connector Network (PCN) brings all of these together in the most splendid way possible. First opened in 1995, the park connector in Singapore is essentially a system that connects the best parks in and around the island. It brings easy access to jogging, cycling, skating and scooting paths.

You also have several playgrounds interconnected and more reasons to get the kids to go out and play. In fact, the park connector network covers a distance of over 300 kilometres, all managed by the National Parks Board.

The park connector network is simple and effective, and perfect for a relaxed day outdoors. And we've compiled a list of the five park connector loops in Singapore that you must explore over the weekend.

5 Park Connector Loops In Singapore You Must Visit

1. Central Urban Loop

If you've lived for too long in the concrete jungle, let the Central Urban Loop bring you a step closer to nature's habitat. This loop provides about 36 km of paths that link Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh and Whampoa.

You can choose to do several activities here right from walking, running, jogging or even rollerblading. It's also ideal to take your scoot or cycle for a fun day out.

Enjoy the scenic views without disconnecting from the urban environment, perfect for those who've been surrounded by the brick and mortar for far too long. Just the right amount of green for your eyesight before you move on to exploring the other park connector loops in Singapore.

2. Eastern Coastal Loop

A loop that's great for East Coast residents, the Eastern Coastal Loop connects Pasir Ris Park to East Coast Park.

This includes about 17.5 km of paths and you will get a chance to explore from Pasir Ris Town Park, Tampines Eco Green, Bedok Reservoir Park and Food Centre. You must also check out the Bedok Jetty, East Coast Park and Changi Beach Park along the way.

While exploring this loop, do take the liberty of making some detours to different playgrounds, beaches and looking at the wildlife. Oh, and before we forget, there's a couple of food outlets too. Do not gorge too much on the street food though.

3. Northern Explorer Loop

Looking forward to exploring the park connector loops in Singapore but also want to take it easy? You can start with the Northern Explorer Loop. It's about 11 km in length but has a hilly terrain, so be advised on bringing young kids here. It gets progressively difficult to climb but is a rewarding walk for those looking to get a good workout.

The Northern Explorer Loop covers the Lower Seletar Reservoir, Mandai Park Connector, as well as Sembawang, Admiralty Park. Do check out the macaques along the way but avoid getting too close. And make sure to catch a glimpse of Johor and soak in the view at the Woodlands Waterfront.

4. North Eastern Riverine Loop

Looking for a cycling track that is scenic as well? The North Eastern Riverine Loop would be ideal for you with the 16 km loop promising a flat terrain and some scenic views.

You can start from Punggol Park to Sengkang Riverside Park, moving up Punggol Point Park, past Coney Island, through Lorong Halus Wetland and back.

The tall trees cover this loop with greenery and birdwatchers will particularly like it for all the different species that you can spot.

5. Southern Ridges Loop

A relatively shorter but mesmerising trail, the Southern Ridges Loop is about 10 km long. You start from at Mount Faber Park, then head to Telok Blangah Hill Park, and continue moving towards either Hort Park and Kent Ridge Park or Labrador Park.

Make sure to stop and click some selfies at the iconic Henderson Waves bridge, and gather a bit of Singapore's history at Labrador Park.

3 Park Connectors In Singapore To Try

If the idea of completing an entire loop may seem too tall a task for you, why not start with visiting only the Park Connectors. There are plenty around Singapore and here are a few that you can begin with:

1. Ang Mo Kio Town Garden West to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park

Start with the Ang Mo Kio Town garden and follow the Ang Mo Kio Park Connector through to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. You will find plenty of activities in these parks right from playgrounds, ponds, bridges to even water play areas.

There are plenty of eateries too for you to check out.

2. Queenstown to Robertson Quay

Start exploring this park connector from the Queenstown MRT station. Cycle or scoot your way along the Alexandra Canal Linear Park to Tanglin Road.

You will find playgrounds and exercise equipment along the way, before heading to Robertson Quay where you can grab a quick bite by the river.

3. Punggol Park Connector

If you and the kids love to ride bikes, the Punggol Park  Connector is just the right one. The 6 km trail starts from Gerald Drive and moves along the Punggol Reservoir to Punggol Promenade.

Soak in the views of the Straits of Johor and enjoy the relatively quiet environment. You can find plenty of rest stops along the way too.
