#1 Verbal abuse

Yelling and insulting your children publicly because of minor setbacks might stop them from making the same mistakes again but they will definitely have a hard time recovering from it emotionally.

Children will remember the time you’ve hurt them with words. Be careful of how you show authority – it might scar them for the rest of their lives.

#2 Revisiting past mistakes

Bringing up past mistakes that they’ve committed will make them feel as if they can never get anything right. It demoralises them into thinking the worse about themselves.

#3 Ignoring them or showing indifference

Punishing them this way will not make them become better adults in the future. Would you like it if someone ignores you and your efforts despite trying your hardest to be the ‘best’?

#4 Physical and corporal punishment

Physically punishing your child will create low self-esteem and generate resentment towards you. They will feel like they can never understand you and wouldn’t want to communicate with you at all. If this goes on years and years into their childhood, they’ll come to resent you in the future.

#5 Comparing your children

Comparing your children is not advisable. It generates insecurity, inferiority and even desire to “get even” with other kids or his siblings that are doing better than him.

Parenting is not an easy task; however, you can improve on your own experience growing up to be the kind example of love your child needs – raising them, and educating them with love, patience and perseverance.

#6 Only reacting to negative results and ignoring the positive

Parents often want the best for their kids – especially when it comes to academic results. Not praising your kids when they do well and only harping on them when they’ve failed miserably (despite trying their best) is becoming too common nowadays. You have to remember to acknowledge your child’s efforts – especially when the outcome is a positive one.

#7 Sending them to bed when you’re angry with them

Often, parents who find their little one causing a ruckus in the house tend to send them to bed crying and defeated. We can’t take life for granted, and it’s important to make peace with your kids whenever you can (no matter how minor or major the issue is). Love should not be denied to a child ever.
