If you are a parent of a young child then you might have noticed that as soon as your kid gets a tiny cut or a little scratch, she will instantly demand for a bandage or a plaster to cover her wound.
If your child is like mine, then you’ll agree that sometimes even if there isn’t a wound in the first place, she will still insist on covering up the “boo-boo” anyway!
Before you brush off this cute (but borderline annoying) habit, here are two main reasons why your little one thinks that a bandage will help make her feel better:
1. Placebo effect
Let’s say your child accidentally stubs her toe on her toy chest — although she isn’t bleeding, nor is there a broken bone, it still hurts!
We know that the throbbing will eventually go away soon, but your little one needs something to be done about the pain immediately.
Putting a bandage on her “injury” will create a placebo effect, the same way as you giving her scraped knee a magical kiss would instantly help the pain melt away.
If there is an open wound, not only will covering it prevent dirt from getting in and causing a possible infection, your child does not want to see the cut or scratch and have a visual reminder of her unpleasant accident, so giving her a bandage might not be a bad idea after all.
2. TLC needed
When your child falls and gets a cut on her leg or injures herself in any way, it is comforting for her to receive some care and attention from you.
So when she comes running to you with an “ouchie”, it makes her feel better that her mummy or daddy fusses over her and tends to her wound with genuine care and concern.

I put Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin bandages to the test and as someone who has sensitive skin, suffers from mild eczema and also has an abundance of body hair, I was very impressed by the results.
