When former US president Barack Obama’s birthday message for wife Michelle was posted online, it was like the world sighed in unison.

We all knew Mr Obama was a romantic, but he consistently outdoes his own sweetness time after time. In 2017, he paid tribute to Michelle on her birthday, writing: “To the girl from the South Side who took on a role she didn’t ask for and made it her own: Happy Birthday, Michelle. I love you.”

This year was no exception when it comes to swoon-worthy gestures.

On 17 January, he shared a photo of him lovingly gazing at wife Michelle with the caption:

“You’re not only my wife and the mother of my children, you’re my best friend. I love your strength, your grace, and your determination. And I love you more each day. Happy Birthday.”

“Thank you @BarackObama for the beautiful flowers waiting for me in the office this morning,” wrote Michelle. “You’re my best friend, biggest fan, and getting notes and flowers from you will never get old.”

She also took time to thank the “many people from around the country who sent cards and posted on social media.”

“You have no idea how much we love hearing from you,” she continued. “I know birthdays can sometimes be bittersweet (54!), but your messages of hope, generosity, and warmth have always reminded me how lucky and blessed we are.”

1. Make her breakfast

There’s nothing quite as sweet as waking up to a meal lovingly prepared for you. Even if it’s just a simple meal of toast and eggs, it will be enough to make you truly feel the love!

2. Put your phone away

Sometimes listening intently without distractions and giving her your full attention can be the most romantic thing you can do, dads, trust us!

3. Let her have her me-time

Take charge of errands and other mundane tasks she struggles with. Let her pamper herself with a day of shopping or a trip to the salon. Even undisturbed nap time can be a great luxury for busy mums!

4. Give her full control of the remote

Simple, right? But more than giving her free rein over your Netflix viewing, this shows her you care enough to experience TV shows and films that interest her.

5. Leave loving gifts all over the house

A simple love note taped to the fridge is enough to turn her day around. You can even slip a note in the lunch she brings to work. Why not get creative and hark back to your younger years by making her a mixtape? (That’s a playlist, young mums!) With a little creativity, the possibilities to make your wife smile are endless.
