For most of us, the days of awkward dinner dates and stressful moments thinking of the perfect presents (won’t wanna look too desperate, too tacky, too nonchalant etc) are over.
We have swapped those encounters with special home-cooked menu (sometimes that means ordering pizza) and receiving the same exact bouquet of flowers meticulously selected to the likes of our quirky nature (1 long stalk of black rose, a box of lavender or maybe a jar of succulents because he knows we cry when flowers die).

Santa Clarita Diet is a forbidden romance between Sheila Hammond and her love for human meat. Yes, that’s right. Sheila (Drew Barrymore) is reborn as a zombie and she has to decide between her love for her family and her love for human meat. This comedy-horror is perfect for those who like things a little weird and uncanny (Yes, all you Walking Dead fans out there, feast on this.)
For those who believe in the soulmate connection: In Your Eyes
In Your Eyes borders on the paranormal, with two strangers across the country able to sense each others’ feelings through visions. As they slowly get to know each other on a more emotional level, In Your Eyes reveals another aspect of love where a romantic connection can be something more than physical intimacy.
For a little lighthearted comedy: Love
As cheesy as the title might sound, Love deals with newfound romances and deeper darker issues like addiction with a touch of humour thrown in. Its nuanced portrayal of imperfect relationships gives you a look into real life, but at the same time, you will be left hoping that a happy ending is imminent.
For those who believe love transcends everything else: The Mermaid
Chow Yun Fat returns to the big screen in the hilarious love story, The Mermaid. But Green Gulf harbours a secret: it’s home to the last surviving mermaids, and they are done playing nice. Their plan: send the beautiful Shan to stop the destruction of their beloved oceans.
For the die-hard romantics: The Notebook
Unlikely you have not watched this. But really, let the waterworks begin. This is the time when your spouse will find your crying face adorable. Or, they may secretly record it and put it up on Facebook, but you’ll get support from romantics everywhere! Who wouldn’t sigh with infatuation at this cookie cutter story where poor-boy-falls-in-love-with-rich-girl-but-can’t-be-together-because-of-their-background?!
For those nostalgic feels: Mean Girls
This go-to chick flick is almost a classic! Follow Cady as she learns how to deal with bitchy girls, cute boys and a truckload of drama that comes with being a high school teenager. Nothing like a high school romance and trivial clique fights to cheer you up after a long hard day.
NOT for those who want a happy ending: A Series of Unfortunate Events
This is the one to watch with the kids! Based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic, albeit a little morbid, tale of the Baudelaire orphans — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death.
For those who are their own storytellers: Click Your Heart
Always have second-lead syndrome? Well, Click Your Heart lets YOU the viewer pick who Min Ah ends up with! By choosing which episodes to watch, you can keep trying until your lead ends up with her dream boy – no one loses out in this endearing high school melo-drama.
For those inner Cinderellas: Boys Over Flowers
Based on the Japanese shojo manga series, the Korean remake of Boys over Flowers is a modern-day Cinderella story about a poor young girl who becomes friends with four ultra-rich handsome princes at an exclusive college. As romance bloom, this drama tackles the old adage of difficulties in romancing between social classes.
For those old souls: Casablanca
Sometimes, we just have to go back to good ol’ gold. Casablanca is set in World War II, a time of despair. An American expatriate, Rick Blaine, chances upon his old flame, Isla, who tries to get him to help her and her current husband escape from Nazi-infested Europe. After being ditched by Isla for her husband, Rick turns into a bitter, cynical man who doesn’t stick his neck for anyone. But without the transit papers which Rick possess, Isla and her husband don’t stand a chance to return back to America alive.
