Motherhood sparks significant changes in your lifestyle – you might find yourself sleep deprived as your priorities change. As soon as you enter motherhood, you will immediately notice that time has become extremely precious, yet increasingly scarce.

Your children are the centre of your universe in the morning, afternoon and night time. You might find yourself looking a tad dishevelled with no time to tediously dry or let alone, style your hair. This rings especially true for working mums.

Many mummies give up on letting their hair down and essentially end up with common hassle-free hairstyles such as the reliable ponytail or messy bun, or cut their hair short to reduce drying and styling time.

What are the struggles Singaporean mums face with haircare?

Generally, a mum’s hair type may alter after delivery due to factors including changes in hormones, stress on the mum's body, or medical conditions that accompany pregnancy.

To top it off, the lack of time to focus on self-care, often due to the shift in priority, contributes to hair issues that plague the roots during motherhood. This includes hair fall, thinning hair, dry hair, greasy hair, a sensitive scalp and dandruff.

A survey we conducted with 116 Singaporeans mums revealed mums use less styling tools and appliances after childbirth. In fact, 70 percent of those who have been using hair styling tools prior to becoming a mum stopped using hair styling tools altogether—citing fears of further hair thinning or hair loss, and the lack of time.

This is even though 34 percent of mums say hair styling is important or very important.

Hair-dried locks remains crucial for mummies

There are many hair rules when it comes to maintaining your luscious locks, unfortunately, this is a luxury for many mums who do not have enough time in the day to spend on hair drying and styling because of their busy daily lives with children.

In fact, only 32 percent of mums we interviewed blow dry their hair once every day, allocating only an average of at least 10 minutes to hair drying.

However, the survey also revealed that mums give more importance to hair dryers over other hair tools as 2 in 3 mums still feel that hair drying is important.

Several aspects of dissatisfaction arose when questioned about their current hair dryers.

Majority of mums wanted their current hairdryer to dry their hair quicker, while other areas of improvements they wished for included reduced noise levels, better effectiveness without imposing too much heat damage, lightweight and improvement in the ease of use.

This echoed in their sentiments conveyed with the survey where 76 percent of mums look for tools that dries and styles without the heat damage, while 75 percent wanted a fast-drying hair dryer to save on time.

Additionally, noise levels were equally crucial as 59 percent wanted a tool that has a low noise level, as well as being lightweight (54 percent) compared to most hairdryers.

What about hair stylers for mums?

As for hair stylers, the survey revealed mums prefer tools that could create various styles, prevent heat damage, while also being lightweight, portable, easy to use and had the pivotal ability to avoid any accidental burns.

Because of their on-the-go nature, mums have every right to be “picky” when choosing the right styler for them.

The top features mums were looking for in a hair styler were the ability to style without the use of extreme heat (77 percent) and portability (65 percent).

Additionally, there was much interest in singular tools that could produce multiple styles (56 percent), as well as those with good heat control (53 percent).

Can the Dyson hair care tools save you from “mum-hair”?

Definitely. Dyson has grown in popularity over the years within the haircare industry - its revolutionary technology is invented with the woes of women in mind, including heat protection and timeliness.

The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer was created with the coveted features including:

  • Dyson digital motor V9: the motor spins up to 110,000 revolutions per minute (rpm), to propel 13 litres of air up to the amplifier every second.
  • Air Multiplier™ technology: the airflow is amplified to produce high-velocity jet of air to ensure faster and more effective drying.
  • Intelligent heat control: it is able to measure airflow temperature over 40 times a second, which allows protection from extreme heat damage. Less damaged hair reflects light better, and allows for a more healthy, shiny hair appearance.

The hair dryer allows various attachments including a styling concentrator for sectioned styling, a diffuser for frizz-reduced hair curls or waves, a gentle air attachment for those with sensitive scalp issues and the smoothing nozzle for smooth, as well as controlled airflow – basically, one for every mum personality out there.

When it comes to hair stylers, the Dyson Airwrap™ hair styler further changed the hair styling landscape with changeable attachments that can curl, wave, smooth and dry!

On top of its wide range of attachments that can create multiple styles, its most unique selling point is that it utilises the same Dyson digital motor V9 as the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer.

The Dyson Airwrap™ hair styler produces airflow that dries your hair as you style it, which means it can dry and style damp hair faster than your average hair dryer.

Plus, you do not have to switch up your hair tool because with conventional heat tools, you will need to have completely dry hair before you curl or straighten hair.

For mums, these tools are a godsend because you can achieve sought-after styles from beachy waves to a gorgeous straight blowout without the hassle!

So, are you ready to redefine “mum-hair”? Purchase a Dyson Supersonic hair dryer or Dyson Airwrap™ styler today.
