Primary and Secondary Schools will be undergoing some changes over the next few months. In an effort to provide a more all-rounded education of a better quality for kids in Singapore, the Ministry Of Education will increase curriculum hours for P.E., Music and Art classes.
Singapore is well-known as the-country-that-produces-students-who-are-good-in-Science-and-Mathematics. However, as things all over the globe are evolving at an increasing rate, there is a need for our schools to produce students who are good not just in these subjects but in other fields as well. According to education officials, “hard skills” are not sufficient to enable them to thrive in an era of globalisation. Honing their skills in P.E., Art and Music will make them more rounded, creative and better team-players.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the increase in teaching hours for P.E. is half an hour per week for Primary One and Two pupils while it’s an hour for all the other Primary pupils and the students in the Secondary level. Along with increasing the curriculum hours for these subjects, the MOE is also building more indoor sports halls, as well as providing training for teachers in these fields. The ministry plans to add two thousand more P.E., Art and Music teachers to its current pool of 2,500 as well.
