Circuit breaker allowed a mum to be present in her child’s life

Ever since I was young until I got married, I have loved to travel. I did a lot of travelling even when my first baby was born. From the year 2019 until early 2020, we were able to visit many different places.

However, due to the pandemic, we were not able to do much travelling like we always do. I have a big family in Jakarta, Indonesia, while my dear husband, son, and I are in Singapore.

As for my little family, we are fortunate to be staying in Singapore for two consecutive years with the pandemic.

We find it safe for my family to stay in Singapore. Amazingly, the Singapore government is doing well in handling the Covid-19 situation.

But being in this situation also have its setbacks. One is that my family back in Jakarta cannot even visit my child, and vice versa.

Thankfully, it is possible for them to get to know each other with the help of the internet. Whenever I would video call my parents and other family members, I make sure to have them see my 2-year-old son. I still want my child to get to know my family, even though they’re not with us in Singapore.

I was so grateful to the modern technology that communication became more accessible during the pandemic. Still, I was hoping that I get to see and reunite with my big family overseas soon.

Spending more time with my kid during the pandemic

The use of technology has become more efficient, especially at work, and I was given the opportunity to work from home. This allowed me to spend more time with my little one during the pandemic.

The work-from-home setup is very flexible for me. I get to take care of my child during school dismissal. Aside from that, I was also able to do my hobby—doing some reviews and photography.

Time flies so fast, and I did not notice that it’s already been two years since the pandemic started. But I’m still missing my family and friends overseas during this period of Covid.

I’m also learning a lot of things while staying here in Singapore. As time goes by, I get to appreciate and value the importance of time even more.  while my parents are ageing and my son is growing, I’m also becoming a little bit more mature.

Learning will always be fun for me. Living in Singapore allows me to learn about the different cultures of other countries.

There were some unexpected bright spots in the past months and years. One of the best things to have come out of all this circuit breaking is the extra family time we spend with the kid and more into the family.
