Miriam Yeung, known for popular songs and movies, has been quite active professionally on the mainland lately.

As per recent reports, the Hong Kong star moved to Shanghai in China to fulfil her professional commitments as early as April this year. The news reports also suggest that her son has been enrolled in an international school in the city.

It started with the 47-year-old singer and her husband, Hongkong PR guru Real Ting, 42, participating in the Chinese reality show Viva La Romance 3 in 2019.

More recently, Miriam Yeung participated in the talent show Singing With Legends 3, followed by guest-starring in the acting competition show Hi Director. So you can imagine why it would be difficult for Yeung to work out of other places.

That’s probably what the Ting family was thinking when they decided to move to Shanghai in April this year. This includes Miriam, Real and their nine-year-old soon Torres.

Reports also suggest that Miriam’s son has been enrolled in one of the city’s top schools. In fact, the school is quite the definition of the elite with a tuition fee of $60,000 (approx. 280,000 Yuan) per year.

For Real Ting, whose family was originally from Shanghai, the decision to move there has been about staying close to his roots, or so it seems.

Reports also suggest that the Ting family have been settling pretty well into the new life out there and have been catching up with other stars and friends like Carina Lau for a run.

One of the biggest takeaways for stars to move to mainland cities is the access to international education. While the cities are often turn out to have more options, when it comes to international schools, another reason is the access to more growth opportunities.

Most of these stars have found newer callings in reality shows and other gigs on the mainland that allow them to find better ways to use their talents. In comparison, markets like Taiwan and Hong Kong would saturate over time.

Other Stars Finding Greener Pastures On The Mainland

Much like Miriam’s son Torres, Cherrie’s eight-year-old son Jasper also attends a top international school in the city that’s said to be as expensive as over $60,000 a year. Surely, that’s one class we wouldn’t dare miss out on.

Other Hong Kong and Taiwan celebrities who’ve moved to mainland cities like Shanghai and Beijing include Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung, as well as Taiwan stars like singer and actor Annie Shizuka Inoh, singer Nicholas Wu and actor Steve Ma.
