Regardless of how small or big your achievement is, we all want our parents to be proud of us like Michelle Yeoh.
In an Instagram post last Wednesday (April 12), Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh shared photos of her mom and her father’s tombstone to honour them for Qingming, following her recent award as Best Actress in the prestigious award-giving body Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars).
Yeoh’s mom is smiling and holding the Oscar statuette in the photo. She also went to her father’s grave—Yeoh Kian Teik who died at age 89 in 2014—at Paradise Memorial Park, Tanjung Rambutan in Perak, Malaysia and took a photo of the statuette.

Yeoh added on her Instagram post a caption that says: “Brought Mr.O home…. Without my parents love and trust and support… I wouldn’t be here today… love so much.”
From her movie Everything Everywhere All At Once, Michelle Yeoh received the Best Actress award, and she has become the first Asian actress to win the Oscars.
In fact, the movie also received a total of seven Oscars, including Best Picture.
Qingming Festival
Qingming Festival or also called Tomb-Sweeping Day is annually celebrated on April 5. It is a traditional Chinese festival observed by several countries in Asia.
In celebrating the festival, people clean the tombs of their ancestors and make offerings to the dead. Some people also go on outings to relax in nature, fly kites and eat special foods.

Tomb-sweeping is a sign of respect to one’s ancestors and it is closely connected with Chinese traditions rooted back to filial piety and ancestor worship.
Tending to the tombs of one’s ancestors is usually the main activity of the Qingming holiday.
Leave offerings to ancestors
In the countryside, once the graves of ancestors are cleaned, offerings are then commonly placed at the foot of the burial mounds or on the semi-circle of cement in front of graves that have been cemented over.
Despite her accomplishments in the industry, Michelle Yeoh did not forget to celebrate this important Chinese culture.
