After sustaining head injuries, a mum tragically passes away after fighting with her mentally challenged sons. Her eldest suffers from depression while the younger son has autism.

A Mother Tragically Dies After Fighting With Her Two Mentally Challenged Sons

On Tuesday, 26th of April 2022, it was revealed that the 52-year-old woman's death was because of her two children. It occurred after the woman's 21-year-old son suspected her of having an affair.

The 21-year-old son, who suffers from depression, is her eldest child. Meanwhile, her youngest son, aged 17-year-old that time, has autism. He was diagnosed when he was four years old. They also found out that he was minimally verbal and intellectually disabled. 

Both sons are guilty of pushing her during a fight on the 16th of August 2019. The incident caused resulted in head injuries after hitting a wall twice. It began when her eldest son demanded to see her phone that night. 

After the violent fight, the mum died from head injuries in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). At present, there is a gag order protecting the mum and her family's identities.

Mahathir Mohamad, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), is the officer investigating the case. He was the sole witness called to the stand during the inquiry.

According to him, the woman's husband is a 55-year-old bus driver. On the day of the incident, he left for work at 4:30 in the morning. 

Meanwhile, the woman worked as a sales assistant during weekends. On weekdays, she was the primary caretaker for her youngest child.

The 51-Year-Old Mum Was Allegedly Having an Affair

About two months before the woman's death, her eldest son started suspecting him of having an affair. They told the court she began sleeping in the living room of their flat around that time. While alone, she would softly converse with someone on the phone. 

On the morning of the incident, her eldest son became suspicious of his mum and eavesdropped on her phone call.

The Eldest Son Initiated the Violent Fight

According to ASP Mahathir, during the argument, the woman's eldest son slapped and punched his mum in the face. The son immediately grabbed the phone from his mum during the struggle and threw it on the floor.

To stop him from getting the phone, his mum bit his arm. However, the son pushed her, causing her to hit her head against the wall near the TV console.

The younger son came and hit his brother on the shoulder. Their mum advanced toward the pair, and the younger son pushed her. At that moment, the mum hit her head against the wall for the second time.

The Mother Died More Than a Week After the Incident

"She took two steps forward," ASP Mahathir said. "Collapsed, had seizures and vomited."

The elder son decided to call one of his friends before calling for an ambulance. Unfortunately, the woman was already unresponsive when the Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived at their unit. They arrived at the area at about 6:25 in the morning and found her lying on the floor on her back. 

The eldest requested his friend to watch his younger brother. He then followed the ambulance going to the hospital. 

Later in the afternoon, he was arrested for a rash act causing grievous hurt. Prior to that, he had told paramedics how his mum got injured. On the 24th of August 2019, the mother was pronounced dead.

The Autopsy Report

In the autopsy report, they discovered that the head injuries were the woman's primary cause of death. They were consistent with a direct blow or impact with a hard surface. However, they cannot conclude which of the hits was the lethal one. 

Meanwhile, the police can no longer find any information from the woman's phone. It was completely broken during the fight.

On the other hand, the elder son was diagnosed to have depression. His mental illness led him to have poor judgment and "likely served as a contributory factor to the offence."

According to an Institute of Mental Health report, his mum's alleged affair caused distress and triggered an acute stress reaction. Concerning that, he was prescribed antidepressants.

At present, the younger son remains at home during court proceedings. He was deemed not fit to plead in court due to his autism.

According to the court, the younger son is not permitted to leave the house without supervision. Every week, his father and brother visit him.
