For families contemplating a trip down to the theatres to watch the most awaited animated movie this year, “Megamind”, we bring you the reviews.
The good news for “Megamind” is that, according to a popular movie reviewing site, ‘Rotten Tomatoes”, 80 % of the audience that watched it, liked it.
The genre for “Megamind” would be action adventure, animation, Family and Comedy.
Here’s the movie synopsis,
Megamind is the most brilliant super-villain the world has ever known… and the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way. Each attempt has been a colossal failure, thanks to the caped superhero known as “Metro Man,” until the day Megamind accidentally defeats him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, the fate of Metro City is threatened when a new villain arrives and chaos runs rampant, leaving everyone to wonder: Can the world’s biggest “mind” actually be the one to save the day?
Megamind has been met with mixed reviews. We look at some reviews from reputable critics.
Lou Lumenick, New York Post
“This animated feature is what Yogi Berra called “déjà vu all over again,” its shopworn premise most recently having served the marginally better “Despicable Me” this summer.
The action in this film is generic– including a falling building that unfortunately summons memories of 9/11 — is presented in headache-inducing 3-D, and the comedy isn’t particularly sharp.”
Michael O’Sullivan, Washington Post
“Megamind” is a smart, funny and original treat. Sweet enough to deliver a message about creating your own destiny, but with just enough sour grapes not to cloy, the movie delivers pure pleasure from start to finish.
It’s also beautifully animated, with great sensitivity to detail. Check out the faintest flush of pink, for instance, in Megamind’s oversize ears.
For once, the 3-D gimmick seems justified, with eye-popping scenery and action.

“Family audiences finally have something worth turning out in droves to see. This 96-minute movie proceeds at a zippy pace and the audience’s attention never wavers from the excitement up on the screen.
The musical score by Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe is pleasantly stuffed with familiar pop tunes.
Lots of surprises await audiences as boos and hisses turn to cheers with exciting twists and unexpected role reversals. This delightful movie is a refreshing change of pace.
Screenwriters Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons in their impressive feature film debut have crafted a story that can be appreciated on different levels by adults and children. The clever dialogue complements the action scenes and a budding romance that develops between two unlikely characters.”
David Kaplan, Kaplan Vs Kaplan
“The teaming of Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt in a 3-D animated comedy certainly is enough to create interest from the movie going public.
Add in Tina Fey and the everywhere man, Jonah Hill, and “Megamind” would appear to be a winner. For me, the movie is fairly ho-hum, with likenesses reminiscent of “The Incredibles”.
It also borrows liberally from the Superman legend, except instead of kryptonite, the hero in this piece (Metro Man, voiced by Pitt), is allegedly weakened by copper.
There is some rather remarkable cinematography, particularly with elevated shots, as when Roxanne is stranded atop Metro City’s tallest building.
(The running joke in the film has Megamind pronouncing the city as Metrocity, accent on the second syllable).
Some of the best animation is evident when Roxanne’s short hairdo is ruffling in the wind.
However, none of this is enough to recommend a “See It Now”. But the kids will love it
