Maternal mortality or the death of a mother during child birth, is relatively rare in Singapore. According to the Registry of Birth & Deaths, ICA Singapore, the ratio stands at about 8.6 in every 100,000 births.

This could be due to the fact that all obstretricians in Singapore are trained to identify and treat mothers at risk of maternal death during pregnancy/childbirth. Improved antenatal care in Singapore hospitals have also contributed to improving the maternal mortality rate.
