A man suspected to have killed his girlfriend’s baby is awaiting trial. The alleged murder occurred in a carpark after the mum trusted his boyfriend to watch over her child. The deceased baby suffered from traumatic head injuries.

A Man Is Suspected to Have Killed Girlfriend’s Baby
29-year-old Mohamed Aliff Mohamed Yusoff is charged with murdering his girlfriend’s 9-year-old baby. He left the child in the back of his van and caused traumatic head injuries.
On the 5th of April 2022, they opened their case against the man for murdering the child. Mohamed Aliff Mohamed Yusoff is charged with murdering Izz Fayyaz Zayani.
The incident happened sometime between 10 PM on the 7th of November 2019 and the 8th of November 2019. Meanwhile, the area is located at a multi-storey car park in Yishun Street 81. If found guilty, the man might face the death penalty or life in jail with caning.
The Tragic Incident in 2019
According to the High Court, Mohamed Aliff and Nadiah Abdul Jalil started their relationship between September to October 2019. The child’s mum, Abdul Jalil, had Izz from her previous marriage.
On the 7th of November 2019, the couple decided to buy a van for their business. On the same night, Mohamed Aliff offered to take care of his girlfriend’s baby.
The child’s mum trusted him and left her baby with her boyfriend along with essential items for infants. Afterwards, she went to her brother’s flat in Jurong East to stay the night as her workplace was nearby.
Meanwhile, surveillance footage of Aliff driving into a car park at around 10 pm. The next hour, he left the baby alone inside the locked van. He then walked to a nearby Sheng Siong supermarket to buy paper towels, wet wipes, and an energy drink before returning to the car.
The Suspect’s Defence Statement
Mohamed Aliff claims the baby fell from his arms headfirst into the floor of the van. He then adds that the infant bounced and hit his head again on the footrest of the van. After the baby fell, Aliff insists he attempted to call his girlfriend several times. She only was able to return his call close to midnight.
Deputy Public Prosecutors Han Ming Kuang and Lim Shin Hui said in their opening address that Aliff behaved “strangely” after leaving the carpark at 12:15 AM to meet his girlfriend in Jurong East.
The Mum Was Shocked to See Her Baby on the Van’s Floor

According to the prosecution, Aliff stayed by Abdul Jalil’s side after the tragic incident. He also drove around aimlessly and claimed he wanted to avoid roadblocks. While on the road, Abdul Jalil turned back and saw Izz on the floor at the rear of the van.
“She was shocked as she thought Izz was at the accused’s parent’s flat in Yishun all along,” stated the prosecution.
Abdul Jalil found the baby to be unresponsive and cold to the touch. She was immediately filled with dread and wanted to rush her baby to the hospital. However, Aliff did not stop the car and told his girlfriend his version of the baby’s accidental death.
“The accused also suggested they should pay someone to bury Izz and report him as missing a year later. [Abdul Jalil] refused and insisted that Izz should be given a proper burial,” said the prosecutors.
Furthermore, the prosecution revealed that Abdul Jalil will testify about what happened during the incident. This is because Aliff tried to make his girlfriend support his statement. According to them, Aliff instructed Abdul Jalil to tell the authorities that Izz got hurt after accidentally falling from his arms.
The suspect also told his girlfriend to lie and claim the accident occurred at around 1 am. He also tried to make himself look innocent by stating he performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the baby.
When the couple arrived at the National University Hospital, Aliff took his time to park the van, clean himself up, and brush his teeth. He also discarded his phone in the bushes before heading to the hospital’s emergency room.

The court heard that Izz was pronounced dead at 4:30 AM on the 8th of November 2019. Meanwhile, Senior consultant forensic pathologist Gilbert Lau performed the autopsy on the baby. He concluded that the child died from bleeding in the brain as a result of traumatic injury.
Aliff, on the other hand, was originally charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt but the charge was later changed to murder. As of April of 2022, the trial is still ongoing.
